Powell River is a city on the northern Sunshine Coast of southwestern British Columbia, Canada. Most of its population lives near the eastern shores of Malaspina Strait, that part of the larger Straight of Georgia between Texada Island and the Mainland. These geographical surroundings explain Powell River's remoteness as a community, despite a relative proximity to Vancouver and other populous areas of the BC Coast. The city is the seat of the Powell River Regional District.

Powell River Sea Fair, a tradition since 1963, brings together the community for fun in the sun in the last weeks of July. There are contests before and during the big weekend, a variety of entertainment, local vendor displays, and a carnival. There are fireworks on Saturday night and Sunday is family day with activities focused on the little ones.
A heartfelt thanks to all the hardworking volunteers who give their energy and time and the many sponsors who make the Sea Fair possible year after year. However, special thanks should go to Donna and Verna Rekve as well as Carol Hamilton,for their unbounded energy, enthusiasm and ‘heart’ that goes into making the event a success year after year. There are very few people who would give so much time and energy.

The Blackberry Festival is one of the 'big' events in Powell River over the summer.
Through the week there are contests, a wine and cheese party on Wednesday and a huge street party on Friday.

The 29th Annual Sunshine Music Festival is set to take place during the Labour Day Weekend of 2010 (September 4 & 5). The Festival is a celebration of live music from across Canada and the world.
Expect to see world-class performances in a picturesque setting at Palm Beach Park on the waterfront. Shop at the craft market and enjoy some tasty treats from the many food vendors. Year after year, the festival gets better and better!
